Broadway Workshop’s Excel Teen Intensive is a 5-day summer program geared toward our older students with a strong passion for the performing arts. While every Excel student will study the 3 disciplines of musical theatre (Acting, Singing and Dance), this program allows students to choose a major (Acting, Voice or Dance). Students will prepare solo and small group pieces in preparation for our end of program production, where they will perform for a panel of New York agents, mangers and casting directors, as well as family and friends. Our past showcase guests include: Telsey + Company Casting, Jennifer Rudin Casting, the LA division of Disney Talent Development, Mark Simon Casting, Tara Rubin Casting and many others.

  • VOCAL MAJORS should have 2 musical theatre song selections and one contemporary monologue prepared for the EXCEL program
  • ACTING MAJORS should have 2 contemporary monologues and one Musical theatre song prepared for the EXCEL program
  • Dance Majors should have 1 musical theatre song and one contemporary monologue prepared for the EXCEL Program

In addition to their core classes Excel students will take master classes with New York's top Casting Directors, Broadway Actors, Musical Directors and Choreographers. Broadway Workshop’s Core teachers are highly regarded professional actors/teaching artists who have starred in major Broadway shows, on Television and in Film.

Some of the guest teachers from past summers include: Farah Alvin (Nine, Grease) David Ayers (Wicked, Mamma Mia), Jessica Lee Goldyn (A Chorus Line), Anne L. Nathan (Once, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Assassins, Ragtime), Rachelle Rak (Catch Me If You Can, Flashdance, Fosse), Joy Suprano (HBO's How to Make it In America) and many others.

Students enrolled in the Excel Teen Intensive Program should have prior experience in school, community or professional theatre. During the EXCEL week, students will also see a Broadway matinee of a new musical. After the performance students will have a private "Talk Back" with cast members of the show.
